Lisa Couture, Executive Director

Lisa joined the Krempels Center in May of 2009. As executive director, she is responsible to the board of directors for leadership and management of the organization and its programs and managing financial and human resources. Lisa has significant and diverse experience in the human services profession. Her prior managerial positions include executive director of Fair Tide, outreach program director for Rockingham Community Action, and program coordinator of The Birchtree Center. She earned her master’s degree in social work from the University of New England in 2000 and her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1994.
Jenny Freeman, Program Assistant
Jenny joined the Krempels Center in April 2008. She brings a paralegal background and more recently worked as a grant writer for a small arts organization. For her work as co-founder of Casinos No! she received the Gateway Award from the Greater Yorks Chamber of Commerce and was recognized by the Maine Sunday Telegram as one of six Mainers who made an impact in 2003. She is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Seacoast and was a speaker at the 2007 commencement ceremony. Currently, her volunteerism revolves around Portsmouth Community Radio where she is a part of the development team and co-hosts two shows. At the Krempels Center she assists with programming and is the volunteer coordinator. Jenny became a Certified Brain Injury Specialist in September of 2010.
Lisa Hanson, Program Co-Director

Lisa Hanson - a founder of Krempels Center in 1995 and its first employee in 1998 - has a bachelor's degree in social work and is both a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and Certified Case Manager. Lisa's 30 years in the health care and social services field includes several roles with Krempels Center, from Grants Director to Support and Resources Coordinator. Twenty years after meeting David Krempels, Lisa continues to be inspired every day by his story and the people she has met along the way. As Program Co-Director, Lisa is energized and excited about guiding the continued growth and success of the Center, as well as tapping into mission-aligned opportunities for programmatic expansion.
Barb Kresge, Program Co-Director
Barb Kresge, OTR/L joined Krempels Center staff in August 2006 as Program Coordinator. Her work as an occupational therapist has spanned the treatment spectrum from acute care through home care, and has included work with adult clients with a wide range of diagnoses. In addition, Barb has worked at Tufts University as a lecturer in the Occupational Therapy Department. Barb, a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, is passionate about her work at Krempels, which offers opportunities to develop long-term relationships with members, mentor students from multiple disciplines, and educate the public about brain injury. In her role as Program Co-Director, Barb embraces the opportunity to develop and implement a program that has a profound and lasting impact on the quality of life of brain injury survivors.
Kristi Scarpone, Development Director
Kristi comes to Krempels Center with more than 15 years of professional fundraising and training experience where she has helped raise over $30 million in the nonprofit sector. As development director, she supports Krempels Center in realizing its potential for sustainable funding by engaging with the human and societal impact of its work. She serves as adjunct faculty for the University of New Hampshire, New England College’s Master of Nonprofit Management Program and Lister Academy where she teaches courses in fundraising, board governance and entrepreneurial business. Kristi lives in Kittery, Maine with her husband Michael and their twin daughters.
